The Story Behind Level 8 Gin
Enterprise Legal was founded in 2017 by leading business and construction lawyers and gin-connoisseurs, Sharné Lategan and Peta Gray. Fed up with the traditional law firm model and with an audacious goal of ‘doing law better’, Sharné and Peta built a law firm that offers specialised, modern and high-quality legal services for clients on the Darling Downs and beyond.
The girls quickly learnt that Enterprise Legal was the breath of fresh air that many had been searching for in the legal services industry and before they knew it, they had been joined by a team of like-minded employees and hundreds of dedicated clients and referrers. It also soon became apparent that the EL supporters not only loved the ‘EL Difference’ when it came to their legal matters, but they also enjoyed working with lawyers who liked to have a good time!
Known for throwing ‘events of the year’ (as Peta refers to them), the EL Team often combines their love of events with their love of gin. However, it was only after EL’s sponsorship of an event held in March 2021 led them to the Pechey Distillery that the brilliant idea of Level 8 Gin came about.
Having been thoroughly impressed with the Pechey Distillery gins on offer (or perhaps it was because they were drinking shots of gin at 10:30am..), the brilliant idea of combining forces to produce a bespoke EL Gin was born!
The Story Behind the Flavours
Having immigrated from South Africa, Sharné introduced Peta early on in their partnership to the joys of South African gins, which are quite different to those on offer in Australia.
The girls ‘brain-dumped’ a slew of ideas and their favourite flavours on Ben from Pechey Distilling and somehow (maybe using his powers of unicorn-whispering), he was able to arrange their enthusiasm into the perfect gin!
You will taste juniper, coriander, raspberry and rose in Level 8, with subtle undertones of grapefruit, lemon myrtle and orris root. And in staying true to EL’s ‘supporting local’ mandate, the raspberries are even sourced from local raspberry farm, Hampton Blue.
The Story Behind the Name
In September 2020, EL outgrew their original office in Margaret Street and moved into a custom-built space on Level 8 of the Easternwell Building, becoming Toowoomba’s highest-located office! Level 8 (and the views that accompany it) is therefore synonymous with Enterprise Legal.
